Traveling around the world has greatly influenced my work. I find inspiration in far away places and also in my own backyard. There is beauty all around me, in the skies, vast landscapes, waters and gradients of light. All of these experiences and memories often find themselves woven into my work. My current series of paintings called “Small Village…Happy Life” was created out of my interest in the importance of small communities that come together in times of trouble and change.
Relationships between people, who work together to create a better world inspires me on a deeper level. The doors and windows that I paint in my “village” series are my way of offering a welcoming gesture to my viewers. An invitation to come inside the work and examine your own relationship to the pieces. While listening to NPR a speaker said “People still believe in people” and “People still believe in communities”. These two simple statements gave me an overwhelming sense of hope and I turned that hope into color that began pouring out of me.
